Siberian State Medical University Overview

Siberian State Medical University, located in Tomsk, Russia, is one of the most prestigious medical institutions in the country. Ranked among the top three medical universities in Russia, SibMed was granted the status of the only flagship medical university in 2017. It was also selected by the Russian Government to participate in a national project aimed at enhancing the export of education, making it one of just two specialized universities chosen for this initiative.

SibMed has become a top choice for international students pursuing an MBBS in Russia due to its strong academic framework and practical training opportunities. It is one of the few medical universities in Russia with its own multidisciplinary university hospital. This significantly enriches student learning, as 80% of the teaching staff hold academic degrees and titles, and 50% are practicing doctors. Students can apply their classroom knowledge directly in clinical settings.

The university hospital serves as a hub for education, research, and healthcare, accommodating over 100,000 patients from across Russia each year. Additionally, SibMed features a state-of-the-art simulation center—one of only two in Russia accredited by the European Society for Simulation in Medicine (SESAM).

The university’s Research Library is the largest specialized medical library in Siberia and the only publicly accessible medical library in the Tomsk Region. It was ranked the best medical university library in Russia by the Academy of Evidence-Based Medicine in 2016.

In 2015, SibMed also became the first medical university in Russia to be accredited by Skolkovo Technopark.
